Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about buying and selling on Namearch.
What is Namearch?+
Namearch is a verified domain marketplace. Every seller must prove DNS ownership before listing a domain, and every transaction is secured through Escrow.com. We charge 7.75% on fixed-price sales and 9.75% on offers and auctions — no listing fees or subscriptions.
How does DNS verification work?+
When you add a domain, we generate a unique TXT or CNAME record. You add this record to your domain's DNS settings. We verify it via Cloudflare DNS-over-HTTPS — the process takes seconds once the record propagates. This proves you control the domain.
Why do you verify ownership?+
Most domain marketplaces don't verify that sellers actually own the domains they list. This leads to fake listings and scams. We require DNS verification so buyers can trust that every listing is legitimate and the seller truly controls the domain.
How are payments handled?+
All payments go through Escrow.com, the industry standard for domain transactions since 1999. Namearch never holds buyer funds. The seller only receives payment after the domain transfer is confirmed by the buyer.
What does a transaction look like?+
Buyer purchases or offer is accepted → funds are escrowed at Escrow.com → seller transfers the domain → buyer confirms receipt → Escrow.com releases payment to seller minus the Namearch commission (7.75% for Buy Now, 9.75% for offers/auctions). Escrow.com may also charge its own transaction fees separately.
How much does it cost?+
Listing is completely free with no limits. We charge a marketplace fee only when a sale completes: 7.75% for fixed-price (Buy Now) sales, and 9.75% for offers and auctions. There are no monthly fees, no subscription plans, and no listing fees. Escrow.com charges its own transaction fees separately.
Why are fees different for each sale type?+
Fixed-price sales are simpler to process, so the fee is lower at 7.75%. Offers and auctions require more platform resources — messaging, bidding infrastructure, anti-snipe protection — so they carry a 9.75% fee. Both are still well below the 15–20% charged by most competitors.
What's the difference between Buy Now, Make Offer, and Auction?+
Buy Now lets buyers purchase at a fixed price instantly. Make Offer lets buyers submit a price — the seller can accept, decline, or counter. Auction lets multiple buyers bid competitively over a set period. Sellers can enable Buy Now alongside auctions for immediate sales.
How do auctions work?+
Sellers set a starting price and auction duration. Buyers place ascending bids with a $10 minimum increment. If a bid is placed in the last 5 minutes, the auction auto-extends by 5 minutes to prevent sniping. The highest bidder wins when the auction ends. Sellers can optionally set a reserve price and a Buy Now price.
What is anti-snipe protection?+
If someone places a bid within the last 5 minutes of an auction, the end time automatically extends by 5 minutes. This prevents last-second bidding (sniping) and gives all bidders a fair chance to respond.
What is a reserve price?+
A reserve price is a hidden threshold set by the seller. For offers, bids at or above the reserve price are automatically accepted. Only the seller can see the reserve price — buyers just see that the reserve has or hasn't been met.
Can I set a minimum offer amount?+
Yes. When creating a Make Offer listing, you can set a minimum offer. Buyers cannot submit offers below this amount, which saves time filtering low-ball offers.
How do I transfer a domain after a sale?+
You transfer the domain to the buyer's registrar account using your registrar's transfer process (usually via an auth code). Once the buyer confirms they've received the domain, Escrow.com releases your payment.
What TLDs are supported?+
Any TLD that supports TXT or CNAME DNS records can be listed on Namearch. This includes .com, .net, .org, .io, .co, .ai, .app, .dev, .xyz, and hundreds more.
How long does DNS verification take?+
Verification itself is instant. However, DNS propagation can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours depending on your registrar. Most propagate within 15 minutes.
Can I remove or pause a listing?+
Yes. You can pause a listing to temporarily hide it from search, or archive it to remove it entirely. Both options are available from your Listings dashboard.
How long do listings last?+
You choose a listing duration when creating it: 3, 6, or 12 months. You'll receive email reminders as the expiry approaches. Renewal is free — just click renew from your Listings page.
What happens if there's a dispute?+
Escrow.com has a built-in dispute resolution process. If either party raises a concern, Escrow.com mediates. Namearch does not hold funds at any point during the transaction.
Do I need an account to browse domains?+
No. You can search and view all listings without an account. You only need to sign in to make a purchase, submit an offer, place a bid, or list a domain for sale.
